Have you ever been to a place so beautiful that it felt surreal? We have. Hawaii is one of the most well-known vacation spots in the whole world and we can confidently say we understand why. From the moment you see the beautiful islands from your plane seat, you are immediately overcome with unexplainable excitement! The best part about these islands are the unlimited amount of outdoor activities available that are sure to guarantee an unforgettable trip. Here are our top 5 favorite outdoor activities and 5 must do’s while on Oahu and the rest of the islands:

Hawaii is known for some of it’s beautiful hikes that lead you to some of the most breathtaking views in the world. If there is one activity you must do on the island of Oahu, it’s hiking any of the many trailed on the island. On our trip, we hiked some trails as Hanauma Bay. Some of these trails are “off limits” to the public but aren’t guarded so don’t be afraid to go where you aren’t “allowed”. Just be sure you have someone with you who has done the hike before or you have done your research and are prepared for the trek. The hikes can be dangerous make sure you wear the appropriate clothing and foot wear and bring water and snacks along with you.
We paddle boarded for the first time in our lives in Hawaii & it quickly became one of our favorite activities. You can basically paddle anywhere on Oahu and the other islands, but we highly recommend somewhere near sea turtles. We had the opportunity to paddle board on a lagoon filled with sea turtles and it was not only gorgeous, but it was such a neat experience!
There are numerous places on Oahu to cliff jump but one of the most famous is definitely the jump rock at Waimea Bay Beach Park. This spot is a great place to test out your fear of heights by jumping of the 20ft high rock into the crystal clear blue water. If you can’t muster up the courage to jump, just watch the many local youth jump effortlessly from the top and you’ll be inspired to conquer your fear and follow in their path.
Oahu is a gorgeous island and the waters just off of it’s shores are just has beautiful. Snorkeling hear is fantastic way to see some of the ocean life that inhabits the waters around Oahu. While we were snorkeling, we were able to get up close and personal to numerous types of fish and even some beautiful sea turtles. Just remember that this wildlife is in it’s home and you are a guest in their waters so be respectful and just observe these wonderful creatures.

If you read our first blog The Perks of Traveling, you might remember our 4th point when we said that traveling challenges you to get to know the people of the destination in which you are traveling to. On our first day on Oahu, we were told by a local to check out a few hotels pools on the island, and much to our surprise, you can sit pool side at ANY hotel you want! The Sheraton Waikiki has the most beautiful infinity pool where you can sit back, relax and drink a Mai Tai while you catch some rays. Our favorite spot we found, however, was the Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort. They have the greatest happy hour, karaoke and a spacious pool views of the pacific!

No matter what you’re doing on Oahu, just being there and being outdoors is an amazing experience. We barely scratched the surface on all the fantastic activities the island has to offer. You can’t go wrong with any outdoor activity while there so clear your schedule and have some fun in the sun!
